IAAPA Expo Recap: Flex Lanes by Funk Bring Custom Bowling Experiences to Non-Traditional Bowling Venues

We had a great time at the IAAPA Expo in Orlando this year. IAAPA is the Global Association for the Attractions Industry and the expo event is the largest international gathering of leisure, entertainment and attractions industry professionals.

While bowling isn’t a new sport, we have been spending a lot of time thinking about how it is evolving and changing. With a growing audience of “entertainment” bowlers, we see a huge opportunity for entertainment businesses to bring exciting bowling experiences to customers in a whole new way.

Our focus on the entertainment side of the business is to help the industry discover the opportunities to build exciting, cost-effective bowling experiences in traditional and non-traditional bowling venues. When we say “traditional” we mean the bowling alleys and bowling centers of the world – “non-traditional” is pretty much any other venue that might have the space to incorporate bowling but typically hasn’t in the past.

Taking it one step further, we realize that the spaces for food and entertainment venues vary drastically and there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to bringing bowling to these businesses. For this reason we introduced our new Flex Lanes product at the IAAPA event and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

Flex Lanes by Funk is a full-sized bowling experience adjusted to fit any venue from both a size and aesthetic perspective. These are extremely customizable, allowing businesses of all kinds to bring bowling to customers with lanes that are sized to fit the space. Regulation size lanes and approaches just simply don’t fit for the non-traditional bowling venue. So we’re offering Flex Lanes as an alternative, sized to fit almost any location.

As an example of how we do this, the approach (the space leading to the actual lane) is an optional feature to Flex Lanes. In addition the removal of the approach means no need for rental shoes, making the game far more accessible to walk-up patrons. While the lane and approach might be different, the actual experience is full-sized meaning full size pins, balls, ball returns, etc. It’s still bowling, but built for any business.

Flex Lanes by Funk offers:

  • Full-sized balls and pins
  • Full-sized pinsetters
  • Flexible lane length and approach layout
  • Flexible design and style to match location
